In the final phase, an administrative review board, headed by the Police Chief, evaluates the results of the background investigation and polygraph exam. Candidates recommended for certification undergo an interview with the Chief, rated as pass/fail for eligibility determination and assigned a percentage score for ranking purposes. Following this, eligible candidates must complete an eight-hour ride-along. The top fifteen candidates, or fewer if fewer qualify, who successfully complete all test phases, are certified by the City’s Civil Service Commission as eligible for the position of Police Officer. Rankings are based on the percentage score from the Chief’s interview, with additional points awarded to qualifying veterans. The certified list remains valid for a two-year period.
